Slips and Falls
Not every trip or slip justifies a lawsuit, but more do than the average person thinks. When the fall happens on public property (think streets, parks, or sidewalks) or at a private business (think parking lots, store floors, or the shared spaces of apartment complexes), there is a very real chance that someone messed up. The person who made the mistake, not you, needs to pay for your medical care and compensate you for your suffering. If you slipped or tripped and hurt yourself in the fall, you should talk to an experienced personal injury attorney about what happened.
There are a few major questions that you should be ready to talk about when you speak to an injury attorney about a fall. It’s ok if you don’t have all the answers. Finding them is my job. When we first meet, be ready to give me your honest understanding of:
- Where did the fall happen? Who owns or manages the location?
- What condition caused you to fall? Was it created by the owner, or so obvious that they must have known about it? Were they doing anything to fix it before you fell?
- What could have been done differently that would have avoided your fall?
- What, if any, warnings were posted by the owner or manager of the location prior to your fall?
Remember that if you needed to see a doctor about an injury, especially one that happened on public or business property, it is worth exploring whether there is a claim to make. My consultations are always free, and you lose nothing by investigating your rights.
